Car Scheme
What is a Community Car Scheme?
A Community Car Scheme provides transport for people who struggle to get out and about on their own. Volunteers use their own cars to help residents attend medical appointments, go shopping, visit friends, or take part in community activities. We have limited public transport in North East Northamptonshire which makes independent travel difficult. The scheme offers a friendly face, a helping hand, and the reassurance of knowing that someone from your community cares.

Where is the Car Scheme Service Offered?
People over the age of 65 years, or those living with disabilities, who reside in the following areas can access VA's Community Transport:

Wansford Surgery patients who live outside of these areas, can also access our volunteer based transport service to and from Wansford Surgery only.
What Does It Cost?
Annual membership of the Community Car Scheme is £24 or a temporary membership fee for 6 months at £12 - (payable upon registration) . This will allow you access to the scheme.
Members are invoiced each month in arrears. There is a £1 booking fee per completed journey.
The minimum charge for a journey is £5.00 (including the booking fee). You will then be invoiced for the cost of the journey which is based on 55p. Volunteer Action pass your mileage payment (55p per mile) directly onto the Volunteer who drives you.
As a charity, we subsidise these costs through our fundraising efforts - we pay the volunteer driver 55p per mile to get them to your home - thus keeping the cost as low as possible. We welcome donations from passengers to help us with the costs incurred to keep this service running for the community.
Volunteer Action reserve the rights to review these costs a and when appropriate.

- We are open for bookings from Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m
- Please provide at least a weeks notice for non medical journeys, however the more notice the better.
- Always call us for medical bookings, however short notice, we will always endeavour to provide transport.
