History & Impact
Over thirty years ago, a small group of local residents came together with a simple belief - that everyone in our community should have access to support, friendship, and reliable transport. From this vision, Volunteer Action was born.
What started as just a few volunteer drivers offering lifts and checking in on isolated neighbours, has grown into a cornerstone of local support, quietly transforming the lives of older people across North East Northamptonshire.
Based in Oundle, Volunteer Action now serves Thrapston, Oundle, and 50 surrounding villages and hamlets, providing three essential services: a Community Car Scheme, a Befriending Service and Social Activities. Over the decades, dedicated volunteers have driven thousands of miles, shared countless conversations, and brought comfort and connection to those who need it most. Partnerships with local organisations and steady growth have transformed a modest operation into a trusted community lifeline.

We celebrated our 30th anniversary in 2025, which shone a spotlight on the heart of Volunteer Action; our incredible volunteers. Every journey, every act of kindness, and every moment of friendship has built the strong foundation we stand on today. This milestone is not just a measure of time, but a celebration of the thousands of acts of compassion that have shaped our story.
Looking ahead, we remain committed to carrying forward the same spirit of kindness, connection, and support that inspired our founders. With our volunteers and community by our side, Volunteer Action is ready for the next chapter - continuing to make a lasting difference for generations to come.
