Join Us as a Trustee and Help Shape the Future of Volunteer Action

Who We Are

Volunteer Action is a local charity with community at its heart. Based in Oundle, we support volunteers to enrich the lives of people in need across more than 50 parishes in East Northamptonshire — from Easton-on-the-Hill to Thrapston, and Brigstock to Lutton.

What We Do

Our core services include a Community Car Scheme, 1:1 Befriending and Group Befriending scheme. Helping people aged 65+ and those living with life limiting health conditions or disabilities maintain their independence and wellbeing.

Our volunteer drivers offer safe, friendly, and subsidised transport to essential appointments — whether medical, personal, or social — helping reduce rural isolation and financial hardship.

Our Befriending Team provides face-to-face, telephone, and group companionship, creating connections and a sense of belonging for those who may otherwise feel alone.

Make an Impact as a Trustee

Our Trustees play a vital role in guiding the charity’s strategic direction and ensuring we stay true to our mission. As a Trustee, you’ll be part of a supportive team providing oversight, governance, and leadership.

We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and are particularly keen to hear from those with experience in:

– Human Resources (HR)

– Legal/Compliance

Time Commitment

Trustees are appointed for an initial term of three years (renewable up to two further terms). We meet six times a year and host annual events to celebrate our volunteers and supporters. Most Trustees contribute between 5–10 hours per month, with opportunities to support special projects based on your interests and skills.

Why Volunteer with Us?

– Be part of a warm and purpose-driven team.
– Use your skills to make a tangible difference in your community.
– Gain valuable experience in charity governance and leadership.
*Please note this is a voluntary role; however, all reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.*

Interested?

We’d love to hear from you. Please contact our Chief Exec & Charity Manager, Rachel Dixon, on 01832 275433 or email rachel@volunteer-action.org.uk. She will be happy to arrange an informal chat with our Chair of Trustees.
